Railway Energy Efficiency Centre is the winner of the Green Railway Award

On 23 November 2021, the Green Railway Awards were presented for the first time at the Polish Railway Congress Gala. The Railway Energy Efficiency Centre (CEEK) was one of the winners of the competition organised by Railway Business Forum and the Rynek Kolejowy (Railway Market) Publishing House, and it received the award for promoting climate-friendly activities and, above all, for uniting the Polish railway environment around the Green Railway Program, which was unique in the entire industry.
 
The Green Railway Awards is a competition organized by Railway Business Forum, which this year for the first time recognized Polish industry members engaged in outstanding activities for the ecological development and sustainable railway. The goal of the competition is to recognize companies operating in the railway sector, institutions or other entities with special achievements benefiting the railway industry in Poland.
 
“I am pleased that the Railway Energy Efficiency Centre initiative has been recognized. It shows that the industry is increasingly more willing to take steps towards a climate-neutral railways, which is of crucial importance not only for all of us today, but also for future generations”– said Janusz Malinowski, Chairman of CEEK’s Programme Board Presidium, President of Łódzka Kolej Aglomeracyjna (ŁKA)
 
The award-winning Green Railway program is a comprehensive program initiated and led by CEEK to transition the Polish railway industry toward 85% RES power by 2030, and ultimately to 100%. Today, the Green Railway is not only a joint plan of green transformation for the railway industry, but also a program being implemented, including a number of solutions implemented in cooperation with carriers and PKP Energetyka, which plays the role of integrator of the whole process. Implementation of the program will make the railways even more environmentally friendly, which will increase the competitiveness of the entire sector.
 
“This award is a form of recognition first and foremost for the entire industry and the carriers who have been involved in Centres actions. CEEK is an initiative of more than 70 entities that for almost three years have been working together to develop and implement energy-efficient and environmentally friendly solutions”– noted Leszek Hołda, Vice-Chairman of CEEK’s Programme Board Presidium and Member of the Management Board of PKP Energetyka
 
CEEK is joint initiative of the railway industry to save energy that has been implemented since 2019. As part of the Centre more than 70 entities develop and implement energy-efficient and environmentally friendly solutions that serve all participants of the railways market. CEEK is a platform for dialog between representatives of carriers, infrastructure managers and operators, research institutions and industry organizations.
 
“A key theme for the coming years are and will be all issues related to the energy transformation and actions reducing the negative impact of the climate change. CEEK is perfectly aligned with this trend as it promotes increased energy efficiency of railways and their increased attractiveness and competitiveness” – added Piotr Majerczak, Vice-Chairman of CEEK’s Programme Board Presidium and Member of the Management Board of PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe.
 
In addition to CEEK, the winners of the first edition of the Green Railway Awards included the following entities: Łódzka Kolej Aglomeracyjna, PKP Intercity, Koleje Mazowieckie, DB Cargo Polska, PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe and the Office of Rail Transportation (UTK).
